Pyralis Elena Mackenzie Umbridge was born on August 1st, to Rosie and Sam Umbridge. Having an older brother named Glen, and a younger sister named Tanya, they had to support each other through the years in the Bostonian home made of red brick.

One day, when Phinn was three, she had been out playing when in the garden with her brother, who was five, she had made a rock float for a moment. Glen was surprised, but excited at the displayed, told their parents. Their mother became quite angry and saw this as the comings of a warlock that her family had been invested in the fighting. Their father had convinced his wife that they would be able to squash the magic out of her. Rosie had relented, and agreed to spare their warlock child, yet treated Phinn badly whenever she displayed signs of magic.

Sam, on the other part, had created strict rules for Phinn, and subtly taught that Phinn was to hide her magic, but also started teaching her about magic. When she was six, her sister had started to show the signs of magic flowing in her system. Yet, Glen had been indoctrinated by their mother into thinking that magic was bad, and was told Rosie that Tanya too showed magic prospects. When questioned about the incident, Phinn took the blame for accidentally floating rock. Rosie was angered by this, and best her daughter for this infraction.

When Sam had heard about the situation, he showed a stern and disappointed face in front of his wife, but when he and Phinn met for lessons, he relayed to her that he was very proud of her for what she did. Sam took on the task of teaching both his daughters how to control the magic that flowed through their veins, until one day, when Phil was sixteen, Glen had informed his mother that he had seen his father teaching his sisters magic.

Sam hurried Phinn and Tanya to his Volvo taxicab, after making them pack their bookbags with clothes and toiletries, and instructed Phinn to drive as quickly as she could to an address he gave her. Phinn’s last look at the family manor was driving, as it exploded in flames, presumably in a fight between her parents.

Upon arriving at the address in a rural town of New York, Phinn looked on a smaller home than the one she had come from. She pulled the Volvo in past the gate and pulled up the driveway. Tanya had wanted to go to the door, but Phinn wanted in the car, in case a swift exit was needed. There was no need to worry, as the face of her grandmother had greeted her. After settling into the home, the car in the garage, Phinn explained to the older woman what had happened.
